We just released Rseven for Android and iPhone (jb), both are still early versions that will go through many revisions to achieve stability and full feature set available on the other Rseven apps (Nokia S60 & WM).

The Android app supports Android v1.5 and later, that means it supports all Android phones including the first Android phone the T-Mobile G1 a.k.a. HTC Dream that has been updated to Android 1.5 a.k.a. ” Cupcake”. Call recording is still not functioning well (can only record one side of the conversation) on the Android due to certain Android APIs not working as it should be. We are testing with Froyo (Android 2.2) now to see whether the function is working. Rseven for Android is available in the Android Market, SlideMe and Rseven download page.

The iPhone app unfortunately requires the use of Private APIs that are not supported by Apple and requires a jailbroken iPhone to function. However the current version is still missing a few features like call recording, backup of audio & video files and syncing of calendar. It’s available now in Cydia.

The next app we will release will be for Blackberry.

I’m sure you’ve heard that kind of question being asked before on TV when a police detective want to know where a suspect was at the time the crime occurred. And normally if the suspect remembered exactly where they were at, they would have a valid reason for remembering like “Yeah, I’m sure I was at home, watching Lost on TV that starts at 9 because I wanted to find out what happened to the polar bear” or something like that. Well the scriptwriters now have another reason for a character to remember where he was at a particular time; the Rseven Timeline.

Rseven Timeline

Since Rseven arranges all your phone activities in a chronology on the Timeline it’s pretty easy for you to go back in time and see where you were and what you were doing based on what you did with your phone. If for example, on the Timeline you see that you sent text messages, just before 9pm on May 11th, to Hurley asking where exactly is the location of the restaurant that you were supposed to meet, followed by calls from and to Claire & Libby, followed by snaps of all four of you having a good time at Mamacita on Chestnut St drinking margaritas, then you can confidently answer the police on your whereabouts.

If that still doesn’t jog your memory, you can look at the Google Maps mashup on Rseven, to see your location when you were using your phone based on the cell network area.

Rseven Google Map Mashup

Our long overdue newsletter.

Hi Rseven User,

It has been a while since our last newsletter, we have been busy adding new features to Rseven, as you may have noticed if you regularly use Rseven; the most complete online mobile lifecache service.

1.Google Maps Mashup

We have added a map to show the locations of where you were at when you were making calls or using SMSs. The location is not precise, since we use the mobile network cell ID to determine the location and reference it with the database at OpenCellID, an open source project. However it should give you an idea where you were at on a particular day in your past.

2. Data Management

We have added an export feature to Rseven (in Settings) that allows you to export your monthly data in a CSV file (a text file with a comma separating the values) that you can download to your computer for additional safekeeping or further analysis.

3. Security Question

A reminder for users that have not set their security question, please do it as soon as you can by logging in to rseven.com and set it in Settings > My Account . You’ll need to be able to answer the security question if you want to reset your password in case you’ve forgotten your password.

We value your feedback to make Rseven better and we’d appreciate it if you’d take the time to email your suggestions (or complaints) to support@rseven.com. Thanks for lifecaching with us.

Do you sometimes go through your phonebook and find a contact that you can’t recall who it is? Where did I meet this person? How did she/he get into my phonebook? With Rseven you can quickly recall just by looking at the Conversation tab, to see when you last spoke or text this person. And by reading the messages or listening to the recorded calls, you should remember who it is.

If that doesn’t help, go to the Timeline on the date you first spoke/messaged with the contact & look through the messages, calls or pictures taken around that time. Maybe it was at a particular conference or at a bar/club/party/event you were at.

If you still can’t remember, than maybe you don’t want to keep that contact in the phone. Use the Contact Manager to set that contact to Inactive and it will be deleted from the phone but stored in the Inactive tab.

Rseven was reviewed by All About Symbian, the world’s biggest community site and portal for smartphones running the Symbian OS. Read it here. This is the kind of feedback we like, with points raised about features of Rseven or new things that we can add to it.

I particularly like the idea on transcribing the call recording, one way to go about it is by working with one of these guys mentioned in this Techcrunch post. Another way maybe is by sound matching, i.e. you say the word, then Rseven will try & find call recording with those words, like what FindSounds does. Anyway that’s another item added to our very long to do lists.

Due to requests from users, we’ve added the auto backup feature in the latest version of the Rseven application for Nokia S60 & Windows Mobile. Just archive as you usually do, and you’ll get a notice to upgrade to the latest version of the Rseven application (v1.09).

After installation of the application, you will be prompted to set a scheduled Auto Backup day & time. By default, all data are automatically selected for backup to the Rseven server.

3. Contact Manager

Based on feedback received from Rseven users like yourself, we’ve enhanced the way you can manage your contact by introducing the Contact Manager feature. With the Contact Manager, you can do multiple selections of your contacts to perform the following:

Delete – permanent deletion of the selected contacts. This action will delete the selected contacts from the Rseven website, as well as from your mobile phones.

Set To Inactive – mark the contacts as ‘Inactive’. This will delete the contacts from your phone to make your phonebook more manageable. However, the contacts are NOT deleted from the Rseven website. If you want to activate the contacts again, just go to the Inactive Tab and set the contacts to ‘Active’.

Mark for Download – force the download of the contacts even though no changes have been made to the contacts. This is useful if you’ve accidentally deleted the contacts in your phone, or if you just want to get a fresh list of contacts in your phonebook.

Hi Rseven User,

Firstly, we at Rseven would like to thank you for using our service, the most complete online mobile backup & sync service that caches your life. In this inaugural newsletter, we’d like to share with you what we’ve been busy with in the past few months. We hope that these new features will be useful tools in your daily tasks.

1. Call and Location Recording
Rseven can record all your incoming and outgoing calls, and have it played back on our website rseven.com. To activate this feature, open the Rseven application in your phone, go to Options > Settings > Record calls, and set your preference. You have the choice to record all calls, prompt to record, or turn it off. Rseven automatically records the location where you made and received calls and SMS. The location info can be seen in the details of those calls and SMS (in Timeline view at rseven.com).

2. Match your phone contacts with your Facebook friends
Do you know that you can match your phonebook contacts with your Facebook friends? You can do this by selecting a contact from your contact list at rseven.com, and clicking Match to select which of your Facebook friends this contact is. This will automatically set their Facebook profile photo as the contact photo in your phone.

3. Share contacts and items using Groups
Using Group features, you can create, manage and invite other people to join a Group. You can share contacts, images, calendar events and other items with Group members. A shared contact and calendar will appear in the group member’s phone when they next sync to Rseven.

As we value your feedback on Rseven, we’d appreciate it if you’d take the time to email your suggestions (or complaints) to support@rseven.com. Once again, thanks for lifecaching with us.

This is the PR for DEMOfall 09, released on 22 Sep 2009.

Rseven Launches Call Recording & Geo-Tagging for its Lifecache Service Rseven.com

Service for Backup & Sync Data in the Mobile Phone Can Now Record Calls and Determine Location of Phone Activities.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. Sep. 22 /PRNewswire/ — At the DEMOfall 09 conference today, Rseven Mobile, Inc. unveiled two latest features of Rseven; call recording and geo-tagging. Rseven is a lifecache service that enables consumers to backup & sync all the data in the phone (call logs, SMS, MMS, Emails, photos, video, audio, contacts & calendar) to a secure and private website. On the website, the phone activities are shown chronologically in a Timeline format, so the user can browse and search through past activities of the phone.

Now the consumers can record all outgoing & incoming calls including calls to the voicemail service using Rseven and backup the recording to Rseven.com for playback.

The geo-tagging feature determines the location of the consumer when there is any phone activity such as making calls or receiving SMS. This location is shown on the website together with the details of the call & SMS.

“We call Rseven a lifecache service”, explains Hisyam Halim, the CEO & Co-Founder of Rseven Mobile, Inc. “The mobile phone is our most personal device, it is with us most of the time. It knows the calls we make, the SMS we receive, the pictures we’ve taken; in essence it’s the closest thing we have to a personal recorder of our daily activities. What Rseven does is preserve all those data and present them back to the user in a coherent and easy-to-use way on a secure, private website.”

“Rseven provides a different approach in doing mobile phone backup & sync, by focusing on lifecache elements. I like the idea that the user can go back in time and see who they were calling and texting at any point in time in the past to recall what they were doing on that day. With the latest feature – call recording & geo-tagging – Rseven creates a new genre of service beyond the basics of mobile backup & sync,” said Chris Shipley, Executive Producer of the DEMO Conferences.

Rseven is a free service and currently supports Nokia & Samsung S60 (Symbian), Windows Mobile & iPhone smartphones. To register and read more about Rseven, please visit www.rseven.com.
